Masters Trip
In April of 1999 I took a trip to Augusta Georgia to watch the Masters.

My Weekly Golf
I manage to get out and play once or twice a week.   Courses I play here on the Big Island include:

Mauna Kea Beach Golf Course.  The Big Island's most famous course.  A Robert Trent Jones Sr. design opened in 1964.  Picture to the right is of the famous par 3 third.  This course has routinely been ranked among "America's 100 greatest" by Golf Digest and received the "Gold Medal" award as on of the 12 " Best Golf Resorts in America" from Golf magazine.

Hapuna Golf Course.   Part of Mauna Kea's sister resort.  The Hapuna Golf Course is a links style course built in 1992.  The course was designed by the King himself with the help of Ed Seay.  Bring lots of golf balls, especially when the winds regularly blow in the 30-40 mph range with gusts in the 50's.

Waikoloa Resort's Kings and Beach Courses.  Kings Course is a Tom Weiskopf & Jay Morrish design.  Opened in 1990 it features some wide fairways with both short and long par 4's.  The wind is a major player here which can turn even a short par 4 into a par 5.  No ocean fronting holes but definately will have water coming into play here and there.  Six lakes(9 acres of water), 83 bunkers.  Golf Digest has ranked this as the 25th. of America's Best 75 resort courses.

Beach Course is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. Design.  The front nine plays towards Mauna Kea while the back nine goes out towards the ocean and back.  The course is a par 70 and is much tighter then its sister course (Kings).  If the wind is up many of the 3 7th. will be a driver hole.  Also, the par 5 15th. will be endless.  The par 5 12th.  is their signature hole which takes you out along the beach.  Enjoy the views of the whales.

Waimea Country Club sits approximately 2500 feet above sea level.  Because of this, conditions can be crisp and invigorating.  The setting is far from homes and resorts set out in the pastures of Parker Ranch. On a semi frequent basis breathtaking views of Mauna Kea and the back side of Waipio Valley can be had.   Features bent grass greens a rarity here in Hawaii.
