Weeellll, the day had to come that we had to leave vacation land.
I'm trying to remember this day because it happened so long ago already.
I do remember we must have left Whistler at around ten or ten thirty.
Bob and myself had to go down to the villiage to do some final shopping.
Trying to corral ten people in one place so we can all leave is difficult.
We did manage to make it though.
We stopped just outside of Vancouver to gas up the vehicles before forging
on to the airport. Unfortunately, the traffic in the city was horrible!
I think it took us over and hour to pass through the city.
So we made it to the airport and dropped off all the bikes etc.
Everyone else went to check in while Troy and I went to return the truck.
Because this was a full size pick up, the rental was not from the airport
area but about five miles outside the area. After we dropped off
the truck, we still needed to check the van in at the airport AND I needed
to check in and clear customs. Let me tell you, this was the closes
I have evern come to missing a flight. Needless to say, the people
at Alaska Airlines and Customs were more then pleasent and accomodating.
One little snag...I was carrying one of those Motorola two way radios.
The Customs people were initially asking me where the other half of this
set was. All I could tell them was the person already checked in
and was in the terminal somewhere. The really nice lady spent some
time taking my driver's license number and all down. Phew, that was
close!
So the flight back to LA was un-eventful. LAX was the usual crowdedness.
The next day I was to fly back on stand by on Pleasent Hawaiian Holiday's
chartered flight. Unfortunately, both flights were booked to the
gills. I ended up going to Hawaiian Airlines and buying a one way
ticket to Honolulu. Those people at Hawaiian are the best! |
