This is the Franz Josef Glacier. It is on the West side of the South Island. Try to imagine a glacier in the middle of a tropical forest and you get the idea.Here I am standing on the glacier a few momemts after the helicopter dropped Troy, Ruth and myself off.

Here is Ruth, Troy and myself momemts after the helicopter dropped us off on the glacier.

Here are two pictures of Ruth and myself in a couple of different snow caves.

Remember, this is ice. NOT SNOW. Regarding the cave that Ruth is in, we had to climb down into it and out the other side.

The cave that I am in, we climbed a good 20-30 feet up through the cave using the rope that I have in my hands.
