Abstract: How and when elliptical galaxies build their stellar mass is a central question in the hierarchical scenario. We will present the stellar mass assembly of the elliptical population since z~1.5, as probes by the COSMOS survey. This survey gathers a large amount of multi-color data over 2 deg2, in particular very deep K CFHT-Wircam and IRAC data which are essential to trace the stellar mass. We obtain accurate photo-z for a sample of 300,000 galaxies and we will show the importance of deep NIR data to constrain the photo-z at z%3E1. Then, we will present the evolution of the stellar mass function for a sample of elliptical galaxies, morphologically selected. This result shows the strong evolution of the elliptical population from z~0.3 out to z~1.5, depending on the considered stellar mass.,
