CFHT-Gemini time exchange program.

Information specific to CFHT users

The Gemini call for proposals opened Sept 1st 2023. The deadline for CNRS proposals is October 4th 2023 23:59 UT. Canada and UH Investigators must follow the deadlines outlined in the call for proposals for their respective agency.

Time allocations

In exchange for use of GRACES and access to Espadons, the CFHT community has access to both Gemini North and South telescopes via the Gemini Call for Proposals. In 2024A, a total of 8.3 nights are available on all the instruments at Gemini North and South.

These nights are divided across the CFHT community as:

  • Gemini North:
4.77 nights for the CFHT community, use of Gemini Time in exchange for GRACES, distributed as follows:
    • Canada - 1.76 nights
    • France - 1.06 night in Band 1
    • UH - 1.25 queue night.
  • Gemini South:
3.53 nights for the CFHT community, use of Gemini Time in exchange for GRACES, distributed as follows:
    • Canada - 1.76 queue nights
    • France - 1.06 queue night in Band 1

    The Gemini Phase I Tool

French members of the CFHT community can apply for time using the Gemini Phase 1 Tool. In the "Time Requests" tab, using the "Proposal Class" drop down menu, French users have to select "Queue Observing at Gemini". Then, in the "Request Type" drop down menu select "Exchange Request (CFH PIs)"

Canadian and UH members of the CFHT community should access Gemini time as they would normally via the Canadian and UH TACs. The additional time is folded into their respective Gemini partner share.

    Good luck and clear skies!
