CFHTLS Workshop 2005

Since mid-2003, thanks to the dedication and hard work at CFHT and CADC, more than 6000 pre-processed MegaCam images have been delivered to the CFHTLS users community. The first TERAPIX-processed data were released at the end of 2004. Various analyses of many of these images have been made throughout the first eighteen months of the Legacy Survey and 2005 should see promising preliminary scientific results based on CFHTLS data, marking the first of many productive years of CFHTLS-related science.

Spring 2005 will be the time of the first external review of the CFHTLS program. The comments from the reviewers will be evaluated by the CFHT Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) just before its May 2005 meeting in Paris. To offer to the CFHTLS users an opportunity to share their experience with the CFHTLS data and their first scientific analysis, and to provide SAC with an opportunity to meet CFHTLS users, CFHT is organizing a workshop in Paris (IAP) just before the SAC meeting on May 26 and 27.

The CFHTLS, with nearly 500 nights allocated over a five-year period, is a major commitment from the Canadian and French Agencies as well as a major scientific program for CFHT. HIA/NRC and INSU have both agreed to provide limited support to those who want to present their CFHTLS experience at this workshop.

Program (May 2005)

The presentations will cover the following topics:

Survey operation (CFHT, CADC, TERAPIX) and observational strategy

Data quality analysis (image quality, photometric calibrations, astrometry, ...)

The main scientific areas identified as the drivers of the components of the CFHTLS: Kuiper Belt, Weak lensing, Galaxy evolution, SNe and Large Scale Structures

The other areas that make use of the CFHTLS images (stellar populations, globular clusters, solar system, ...)

Ample time will be allocated to questions and discussions in order to maximize the opportunities for interaction between the CFHTLS users. It should make for a fruitful workshop for all the participants.
