The CFHT Adaptive Optics Bonnette :
A new set of interaction matrices


A set of new interaction matrices was successfully measured on January 7th 00.

This was done by checking which voltage applied to the deformable mirror (DM) gave a signal that was well within the linear range of the WFS for each optical gain. The surprise is that some of these volatges had to be divided by a factor of almost two to provide the same response as previously! Does this mean the DM got somehow "looser" or the Wavefront sensor got more sensitive? It is an issue that will be investigated.

The new matrices were tested on the sky on the night of January 18th, and even through varying clouds, it was found that they performed as well as the old set that had been used up to now. This is not surprising as their noise propagation characteristics are very similar:
