A numbering system has been adopted to organize the filter database. The filters are numbered based on a 4 digit code. The following diagram explains the coding system for the IR filters. The system for the visible filters is similar, and is explained on the visible code page.

     ex.: 5 3 04
               | | |
               | | ------- order sequence # (4th filter with 15 as prefix)
               | |
               | ---------- Wavelength band filter falls within:
               | 0 : <1 micron
               | 1 : 1 - 1.5 microns
               | 2 : 1.5 - 2 microns
               | 3 : 2 - 2.5 microns
               | 4 : 2.5 - 3 microns
               | 5 : 3 - 3.5 microns
               | 6 : 3.5 - 4 microns
               | 7 : 4 - 4.5 microns
               | 8 : 4.5 - 5 microns
               | 9 : >5 microns
               |
------------- size and/or instrument to be used with:

                         5 : 25.4 mm round (Redeye, FTS)
                         6 : 12.7 mm round (KIR)
			 8 : 110 mm round (Wircam)

The 25.4 mm round filter list also includes some of the FTS 1/2 filters which are semi-circles and not round.
