EEV1 is a backside-illuminated, 2K x 4.5K x 13.5µ pixel CCD. It is currently used on Gecko and MOS, but will be dedicated to ESPaDOnS in 2004B. Since it does not have a serial CTE problem like EEV2, EEV1 is a better astronomical detector, even if its quantum efficiency is slightly lower than EEV2.
